Pluto Pillow builds comprises of three main parts: 1) a temperature regulating outer surface 2) a pocket layer of silky, hypoallergenic fibers 3) a high performance inner foam core.

The Core

Based on your questionnaire, we will build your pillow with a CertiPUR-US® foam core that is the perfect thickness for you (from 1" thick and up), with just the right amount of bounce and support. Our pillow cores were developed with partners throughout the US, with differing cushioning technologies, varying in thickness, density, firmness, and even colors – the one you'll get within your own pillow build is dependent on your answers.

Note: The performance foam cores within our pillow builds are not the old memory foams of the past. These newer tech cores are weather / temperature resistant (does not feel firmer in cooler temperatures or softer in warmer temperature), recovers faster and relieves temperature better than typical memory foam.

The Cover

The core is encased within a plush pillow cover, filled with silky, coated fibers thinner than human hair! These fibers are suitable for those with allergies to down feathers and do not clump in the way that cotton tends to. They also vary in thickness and quantity – dependent on your answers. And if you heat up at night, your pillow build's surface will be made up of our lightly quilted, cool-to-the-touch fibers Don't need the extra cooling? SUSANA SAELIU, 32, susana@plutopillow.com, As someone who never found a satisfying pillow, she was surprised there wasn't a better pillow company that modernized pillows and the purchase experience. 'The only innovative pillows I found online were expensive “smart” pillows or “adjustable” pillows — I just wanted a simple, high quality pillow at a fair price.”

She previously founded a retail chain, which gave her the opportunity to connect with the largest pillow manufacturers and material research firms. Through the experience, she learned a lot about the available materials used, what makes certain materials better than others, and what goes into creating a thoughtful pillow. After prototyping and testing alongside partners with years of material research while tapping into the training and education of sleep researchers, the team rejected the use of molded foam, shredded foam, and down as well as “adjustable-layer” concepts.

“As someone who buys almost everything online only after a ton of research – I still haven’t found the best way to buy a pillow online. Going to a big box store with hundreds of pillow options that you judge by squeezing and touching with your hands for a few minutes at a time isn’t much better.

Pillow shopping is a confusing mess of ideal sleep positions, pillow heights, and fill material. And that is only half the equation; we’re missing the sleeper’s preferences, body stats, and sleep profile and we needed to make sense of all this data to complete the picture.

Through extensive testing and surveying we came up with a computer model to solve this problem. We take the sleeper’s preferences, body stats, and sleep profile into our model, then we add in all of the different ingredients we have on hand to make a pillow and it tells us exactly what materials to use for the perfect combination.”

So, we got to work with one of the best design firms in the world, IDEO and listened to sleep researchers, flight attendants, and travelers to build the ultimate travel pillow. Neck Support (That Actually Works)

Typical neck pillows don’t offer adequate neck support. This results in waking up with aches, strains and a haze of exhaustion that makes you question if you slept at all.

As a result, we based the POD’s neck pillow off of a neck brace, and then dialed it back down a bit for a cushiony, supportive feel for optimal sleep no matter your neck size and shape.

Maximum light and noise blocking

Conde Nast described the POD like being inside a mini sensory deprivation tank. This was the goal. Research has shown that we don’t typically get great sleep when traveling because we’re not in our own space / environment. Makes sense—you probably sleep better in the privacy of your own bedroom (on your Pluto Pillow) than, let’s say, on a massive metal vehicle that hurls through the sky at 550 mph.

It has to be portable

Typical travel pillows are bulky and cumbersome as they eat up valuable space in your carry-on.

Not so with the POD! We spent a lot of time designing it to be able to be rolled up into a small burrito-shape that also works great as a back cushion for lumbar support or a mini pillow.

The POD only asks for a modest space on or in your luggage. You can either wrap the POD on your luggage handle or loosely around your neck. Lots of ways to save precious travel space!
