Because we love our sweet little silkworms and want them all to flutter into adulthood!
Longer, Less Dramatic Answer: We love the feeling of silk (good for skin and hair, natural fibers, hypoallergenic, breathable), but hate how it’s made. Innocent, cocooned silkworm worms are boiled alive in water to extract the silk from the cocoon shell. Egad!
Supposedly cruelty-free alternatives, like Ahimsa silk, where the cocoon is used to make silk only after silkworms fly out of them as moths, has its own controversies. And when we thought the boiling of silkworms was bad enough, the process of making silk has a large environmental impact compared to alternative fabrics. So, we searched far and wide to capture the feeling of silk while sparing our wormies from their terrible fates.
Our search led us to eucalyptus, which has the “I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-silk-!” (hence the product name… we really should try harder with naming this thing) feeling while being better at regulating temperature and kinder to the planet by consuming less water and creating less wasteful byproducts when producing them.
And it’s more affordable than silk! It’s time to leave the worms alone.
Eucalyptus lyocell has a natural “cool-to-the-touch” feel that wicks away moisture and is 70% more breathable than cotton. The fabric keeps you dry and cool on warm nights and also keeps you warm on cool nights.
All of our pillowcases have an inner flap to keep your pillow secure and in place.
This pampering, silky soft fabric is also antibacterial (take that, cotton!), repels oils and dust mites, and is perfect for folks who have sensitive or acne-prone skin. The material is gentle on your skin and also helps protect your hair from creases and tugs. It also helps both your skin and hair retain moisture. Your partner may or may not remark on how much more radiant you are in the morning*.
*We can’t guarantee any words of affection from your partner. Receiving words of affection depend on factors like: Does your partner compliment you in general? And more importantly: Do you even have a partner?

Wash in cold water on gentle/delicate cycle. Tumble dry on low heat or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
We've received a similar question before – which we've solved with this! If your Pluto Pillow doesn't fit (or doesn't close on one side), kindly note the envelope enclosure. Unlike a traditional pillowcase that's open at the end, our pillowcases have a special envelope closure at the end so that your pillow can be neatly tucked in and secured in place.
